Lost Vikings 2: Norse by Norsewest review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:03 (A review of Lost Vikings 2: Norse by Norsewest)

This game was inferior to the first but I liked it.

The Vikings get an overhaul this time! Eric can now swim underwater which was always a hazard in the first, Baleog has replaced his bow with a bionic arm and Olaf can now shrink (?) and fart to lift himself over small gaps. Also, theres a new adition to the cast. Fang and Scorch who are eseentially the other lads mixed. But its all relevant.

These guys can't catch a break from Tomator!

The Lost Vikings review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 03:55 (A review of The Lost Vikings)

Complete Classic.

This was a fantastic Puzzle Game. Essentially you have control of the 3 Vikings who have various skills and tools, with each one being unique they each have a role to play in each level. The Idea is to get to the Gate/Exit at the end of the level.

Eric could run and jump, aswell as Headbutt walls and enemies. Baleog had his sword and bow and arrow. Olaf had his shield to protect or glide. It manages to go on for 40 levels moving through different time periods and dimensions.

It's amazing how Viking Weaponry can take on Futuristic Aliens. I'd be a Viking if I wasn't me!

Archon review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 03:06 (A review of Archon)

I liked to think of this game as Action-Chess.

You had the obvious Light and Dark stereotypes on each side to represent the opposite positions. However, each unit had its own unique attacks and abilities.

It was the fact that even a lowly Knight (Pawn equivalent) could stand a chance against the second tier evils like the Banshee (Rook Equivalent?) by fighting for the square they both landed on. It was so addictive, i even feel like playing it now!

Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 03:02 (A review of Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation)

Now this is what I call a Turn Based Strategy!

I can't remember why or how I got this game but it was worth every penny. This re-vitalised my knowledge and taste for Star Trek. Introducing all those races, cultures, technologies and hardships of an intergalactic traveller. It even had 3D space battles which was the icing on the cake.

I love the fact that each major race was different and needed its own style to control well. Federation were suckers for diplomacy and science, Klingons wanted any excuse to start a fight, Caradassians loved subjugating the minors and spying, Ferengi just breathed on profit and the Romulans were a friendly mox between Cardassians and the Federation. Even the minors had their own personalities, that's what I call detail!

I really hoped for a sequel but it doesn't look hopeful from the originals. However, some inspirational lil chaps have started to make their own Birth of the Federation 2, Check out Wikipedia for a Link to their site.

Puddle in my Pants

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 02:14 (A review of Lady in the Water)

As quoted from the previous review: "This is my first M. Night Shyamalan disappointment." I guess a lot of pressure was on him for another classic.

It wasn't because there was no twist and turns throughout but just because the story was dull. It was A to B but had nothing enthralling about it. Looking back on it, it was over-complicating the narrative. The focus was on too many characters and it tried to make everyone seem more significant than they were.

I can't display my disappointment. I just wanted the film to be something more. Something to talk about without feeling ashamed.

Crank review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 01:51 (A review of Crank)

"My Name is Jason Statham and by the end of this film....you'll be disappointed."

I remember quoting this in his husky voice before I walked into the cinema. I just expected Transporter film but I was wrong mate!

It just rips into itself so much that its more of a comedy than anything else. The action is just an excuse to fit Statham into the mix but I was highly impressed with the entire set-up.

Statham has a new found respect from me now. Let's hope his career steers away from Revolver-type films from now on!

Gangs of New York review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 01:44 (A review of Gangs of New York)

This main reason I didn't love this film was the DeCaprio voiceover. He'd explain, colour and feather every detail about life in New York but I couldn't care less. I just wanted him to be mute by the end.

However, DeCaprio was a decent addition to the cast. I'm not jumping onto the hate wagon. Blade Runner did better without the voiceover, Scorsey could do wonders if he scrapped it in here.

It's an enjoyable film, with a glorious cast but it just seemed like a weak attempt at showing off the early days of America.

Double Team review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 01:39 (A review of Double Team)

Hahahaha! What a hoot.

This is the most outrageous film I've seen this year. I've seen it in the past but not with an objective eye as now. I think every law of physics is just ignored and gravity doesn't exist either!

It's just a poor man's/scripts Lethal Weapon with the token bi-racial duo. Van Damme pulls in his usual style of performance but everyone else is terrible. Mickey Rourke's CGI body is definitely one of the funniest moments, he's more greasy than a Foreman drip tray.

Van Damme always does his best but I'm afraid the Tiger wins the Oscar this time!

Rocky II review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 01:33 (A review of Rocky II)

Probably one of the weakest of the saga. It was essentially Rocky but with the hero at a new position.

I got two favourite bits to this film. At the end of the usual montage when the whole town is chasing/running with him, to show that the Underdog is no longer alone and has a fanbase. He had proved his worth before and now people love him for it. Also, The final blow between Apollo and Rocky where they both hit the deck, it's the only time in the saga this could have been used because of how equal the heroes were.

All the same cast, nothing new to add which is why it will never be among the greats.

Very Bad Things review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 01:26 (A review of Very Bad Things)

This was a surprisingly interesting film. It reminds me of 'A Simple Plan' which I highly respect. How one little secret can explode into a grotesque and outrageous chain of events.

Christian Slater proves useful in this film aswell as his name Boyd that made me laugh everytime i heard it.

The ending leaves me feeling hopeless though. I guess everyone is punished for the parts they play.
