GoldenEye 007 review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 05:57 (A review of GoldenEye 007)

This was a great 4 player game. I couldn't be bothered with the 'campaign' but when we got 4 people around this was the only option.

I can only remember the graphics as simple but the hours of fun that were had made that obsolete. Hiding upstairs in the complex was my main strategy!

I liked being Boris and just destroying people with mines.

The Settlers II: Veni, Vidi, Vici review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 05:33 (A review of The Settlers II: Veni, Vidi, Vici)

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered.

Yeah, this game was good. One of those loveable strategy games from your youth. I'd rather play this than the updating version.

It was nice and simple and you could make your civilisation flourish with all the different materials and skills. The addition of the Shipwright to certain levels made this game fantastic. I loved expanding and fighting for territory.

I wanna play this game again!

Suikoden IV review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 05:14 (A review of Suikoden IV)

This is the worst game of the Suikoden series to date.

They tried to change the entire concept of the game and by doing so there was outrage among the fans. I never finished this game and I never plan to because it was such a chore to play and I hated every minute of it.

4 Characters to a Party. 150 Years Before the Main Stories. Naval Battles. Snowe! It was the worst move Konami made making this game unique.

Thank god they saw sense and brought Suikoden 5 back from the brink.

Return of the Hope

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:51 (A review of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith)

Arguably the best of the new trilogy. At first I thought it was so-so but seeing it a few times more made me think that it did what it needed to finish what had been started. Revenge of the Sith was a bit rushed. Anakinā€™s fall to the dark side was at first instantaneous but after review its all justified. We see the friendships of the main characters at their strongest and at their worst in this film. Probably one of the most emotional scenes in all of Star Wars was the Order 66 massacre, certainly made me feel more than excitement for once. Also, evil triumphs again but they are the first steps to its demise.

The film had loads of inconsistencies too. Losing the will to live was so cheesey, I couldnā€™t believe it! What was the point of Chewbacca's cameo except being a transport for Yoda, I personally think he should have taken out an extra clone or two when they was turning on Yoda, at least he would have had some point for being there besides his race.

Emotional, hard, fast, gritty. The fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin is simply a masterpiece. Everything about it is full of feeling. By the time of this battle, they are opposites in many ways. With Anakinā€™s thundering offence and Obi-Wanā€™s brick wall defence, every stroke is an effort to stop the other and so they essentially have a stalemate until Anakinā€™s overconfidence (a common trait in the Star Wars films which leads to someoneā€™s death or failing) takes control and he loses all. This fight is also inter-cut with scenes of the clash of the titanā€™s battle between Yoda and Palpatine. Both masters in their own art, the whole sequence makes the revenge of the Sith so much more pressing. Everything is waging on these two fights but as you all know good canā€™t triumph this time but they strike some crippling blows before they disappear.

Thank You.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:47 (A review of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones)

Onto a trough but still an interesting part of the saga. Attack of the Clones is simply a detective/romance story turned into a war. Everything about it feeds toward the central goal of Palpatineā€™s ultimate plan.

It's a gap like Empire but not worthy of the same recognition.

We also get to see Yoda in action which has been a wish of all fans since Empireā€™s release. Iā€™m so stuck for words now, itā€™s unbelievable!

The Battle for Geonosis saved this film from the depths. The final circle of Jedi is just magnificent.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:45 (A review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace)

I wasnā€™t aware of the Phantom Menaceā€™s release until the week of my 14th birthday. I was highly impressed though, for vain reasons but my eyes were highly absorbed by everything I saw. Spectacular!

Everything from the beginning of this film until the climax of Revenge of the Sith was a fantastic plan devised by Palpatine. By the time I saw Attack of the Clones, I could already see how it was panning out and it was simply ingenious. Truly an evil mastermind. Seeing it unfolding at these beginning stages just shows how well thought out this first trilogy was but sadly it wasnā€™t perfect.

The end sequence of this film plays parallels to Return of the Jediā€™s climax. Which gives it loads of thumbs up in my book. The Duels of Fates, Anakin taking on the Droid Control Ship, Padme trying to retake the throne of Theed and the Gungans warring with the droid army on the plains. Some people would find it complex, flicking from one event to the next but I feel that adds to the pace of an underappreciated film. The choreography for the fight between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul is simply marvellous and worth every ounce of effort put into it.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:41 (A review of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi)

I remember once during a summer me and an olā€™ buddy had this film on in the background 6 times in one night. Return of the Jedi was my favourite back in the school days as it restored hope and had enough going on in it to keep my youthful mind occupied. At the beginning it reintroduces all the characters and shows them at their best. Han bargaining out of a difficult situation, Luke bettering himself at every step, Leia showing she shouldnā€™t be underestimated and the Droids always up to no good.

The end sequence is split into 3 different stories with prominent characters and almost unreachable goals. This was one of the main reasons why I liked Lord of the Rings because it showed separate journeys all leading to the same result. The people of the world/galaxy struggling for one common cause which I find quite commendable.

Fantastic climax and the *severally edited* end epilogue which shows that everything they have been fighting for has paid off and a new era of peace is a head of them.

Iā€™d also like to add a bit about the obvious villain in all of this. Emperor Palpatine is by far the central antagonist of all six films and holds an indefinite grasp and understanding of how to manipulate all evil to his will. Everything he says in this film is pure arrogance and there is no redemption for this man. Having a mere man shown as so unforgiveable and twisted is purely exhilarating. I found him as one of the most intriguing characters of film history. Shame there is little background on how he started to fall down this dark path.

Well Done.

Evil Wins

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:38 (A review of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back)

The Empire Strikes Back is seen as the bridge between two gaps and the most powerful of the trilogy. It is one of the few films in history where evil triumphs over good. Every fight the rebels take part in, they lose. Since everyone was expecting another episode, this gave Lucas the perfect chance to flex the Imperial muscle and show that they were a threat to hope and good everywhere, AND THEY DIDNā€™T EVEN HAVE A DEATH STAR THIS TIME!!!! This was also the first time I felt the Imperial March Theme was introduced and actually fit the scene perfectly. Where the Super Star Destroyer rolls in and shadows over the whole fleet, truly inspiring.

This addition to the saga introduces and gives more background on the characters which I feel is part of the appeal. We get to see Han Solo using his smuggler tricks more than once to get out of sticky situations and Luke finally beginning to learn what it is to be a Jedi. The introduction of Yoda (one of the most iconic figures of Star Wars) and the olā€™ pirate Lando Calrissian, gives the story more depth and that there are more heroes out there, they just need a chance to prove themselves.

I'm quite the fan of the Han Solo and Leia courting scenes too. Plus, with the ad-libbed 'I Know' line before Solo gets frozen is magnificent. It truly captures the character and Harrison Ford is to thank!

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:30 (A review of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope )

This film revamped Science Fiction for all of us. A New Hope was released in 1977 and it changed the way we looked at space forever. I know it came after Star Trek but this saga owns. Star Wars is science fiction for the masses and has an epic following.

A New Hope brings forth the ideals of a young boy who had an ordinary life which was all changed by chance and his destiny was unveiled to him. The film details that the triumph of the few can topple any foe. It gives hope for the little guy.

Although the first and on a limited budget. It managed to present the mythos of the Jedi and the galaxy quite well. I think it is a must for all Sci-Fi fans and a definite for any film lover to watch as it has so many cultural references based on it and influences from the 30 years it has existed.

This also finishes up the anguish with Obi-Wan and Vader. The fight between them is filled with so much history that it should have gone on longer. The main reason I thank the Pre-Trilogy for being made was to make this fight more integral. The Battle on Mustafar was Epic and 20 years later its concluded. Please watch.

Commando review

Posted : 17 years, 2 months ago on 11 February 2007 04:16 (A review of Commando)

I have to agree with this guy.

This film is the basis for over the top, more bodies than bullets action films. Although there was a bad following of the amount of crap in this particular genre, its the best of the bunch.

I wouldn't go as far to say it's like Crank and that its mocking itself but you can't help but think the writers were having a laugh when they wrote this dialogue.

The film is also sentimental to me and my pals when we would simply watch this and relish in its unbelievable stunts and notorious flaws.
